Weather / Climate
Mexico's climate is hot and humid along the coastal plains, and drier and more temperate at higher elevations inland. It is better to avoid Mexico's southern coast between July and September - the resorts are decidedly soggy and jam-packed, as July-August are also popular holiday months for foreign visitors.
Religion
Mexico has no official religion. Most people in Mexico are Roman Catholics, and this is reflected in several aspects of life. Christmas is a national holiday and every year during Easter all schools in Mexico, public and private, take vacations. In Mexico there are thousands of Catholic churches, convents, pilgrimage sites, and shrines.
Mexico Currency
Mexican currency is the New Peso (MXN) divided into 100 centavos. Credit cards are widely accepted, particularly Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
Getting there
Flights to all of Mexico's main airports are available daily from the United States and Canada. The main carriers include Aeromexico, Mexicana, American (Canadian), United, Continental and Delta flying primarily from Dallas, Houston, Miami, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, Vancouver and Toronto into Mexico. Most flights arrive in Mexico City, although flights from the USA and Canada direct to: Monterrey, Guadalajara, Leon, Aguascalientes, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and Acapulco are also common. The efficient and very cheap public transport system makes Mexico City surprisingly easy to get around; it consists of the metro, buses, trolley buses and minibuses. The metro is the best method of travel, being fast and easy to use, but buses are also very extensive and reliable.
