About Malaysia
Malaysia is one of the most pleasant, hassle-free countries to visit in southeast Asia. Weather / Climate
Malaysia has a hot, humid tropical climate with two monsoon seasons, one between October and February and the other from April to October, the latter characterised by thunderstorms. Temperatures and humidity are high all year round, but it is slightly cooler in the mountains.
Religion
Malaysia is a multi-religious society and Islam is the official religion of Malaysia. According to the Population and Housing Census 2000 figures, approximately 60 percent of the population practiced Islam; 19 percent Buddhism; 9 percent Christianity; and 6 percent Hinduism. The remaining 5 percent was accounted for by other faiths, including animism, shamanism, Sikhism, Bahai, Taoism, Confucianism, and other traditional Chinese religions
Malaysia Currency
The Malaysian Ringit (MYR), also referred to as the Malaysian Dollar, is divided into 100 sen. Malaysian banks charge in the region of US$2-3 for foreign exchange transactions. Moneychangers are generally quicker to deal with and do not charge commission; their rates however are variable.
Getting there
Malaysia's main international airport is at Sepang, 75km south of KL. Most tourists either fly into Sepang or arrive overland from Thailand or Singapore. However, Penang also has international flights, and Kuching in Sarawak and Tawau in Sabah have flights to/from Kalimantan. There are five road border crossings between Malaysia and Thailand (two on the west coast, one in the centre and two on the east coast). There is also a west-coast rail link. There are three ferry services between Malaysia and Indonesia.
